Description

I got my start volunteering with an open source Rails project called the Archive of Our Own (ao3.org) back in 2008 when it was just getting off the ground. I ended up working as a committee chair, lead developer, and paid contractor over the years and built a lot of the core functionality while scaling the site up to 5.4 million registered users and over 500 million page views per week. We won a Hugo Award in 2019 and the site is now the 56th most visited website in the United States. I'm really proud of what we've been able to accomplish over the years, working with a team of (mostly female) volunteers, many of whom were just getting started as developers, and how much I also learned along the way.

In the intervening years, I've also worked at another non-profit (KaBOOM!) and startups in the HR and e-commerce space (Jibe and Rosie). I have a lot of experience upgrading, maintaining, and scaling Rails apps, developing new features, creating internal APIs, building third-party integrations, and working to improve code quality and performance. I enjoy working with junior developers and helping them grow in their careers, and I'm always on the look-out for new challenges and fun problems to solve.
