History After finding a hole in the company website after 2 months of joining as a System Administrator, I had the possibility to change from my role into my passion: software development. That's 17 years ago. From that moment onward, I learnt more languages (C, PHP, and amongst others my biggest love Ruby). Working with databases (most notable: MySQL / MariaDB, PostgreSQL), containerization, ops (using Terraform on AWS, GCP mostly). 7 years ago I discovered I am best suited to help my colleagues grow, and turned into a Rails/Ruby/database/Javascript/HTML teacher at a bootcamp, became a (part time) engineering manager. I've been implementing in Ruby/Rails for 50% of my time for the last 2 years, the rest leading teams and advising C suite execs. My main addition to any team is improving morale, by coaching and helping to build quality software, focusing on metrics for both errors and processing time, helping engineers of any experience level grow, and - as an individual contributor, but also as a leader - to only use complex solutions if the problem domain warrants it. Most recently I've switched towards building my own company that aims to reduce energy consumption and CO2 footprint for households. Tiny (IOT) devices, software in C, C++, Rust, and clearly building the required backends in Rails or Rust. Well connected: Apart from that, I am one of the organizers of Ruby NL, for which I've been hosting EuRuKo (2019), NoRuKu (2020), and monthly community events of Amsterdam Ruby organisation amsrb.org. Pragmatic programmer with 6+ years of rails experience

Hello! 👋 I'm a driven software engineer from the Pacific Northwest. I've been writing rails apps for 6+ years in a professional capacity in industries including e-commerce, cybersecurity, e-learning, and house project management. I got my start at a local bootcamp called Epicodus where I spent 40-60 hours a week for 9 months studying rails and various javascript frameworks (and bicycle couriering to pay the bills!). Recently I was working with a company based out of NYC called Rhino that offers a Security Deposit Insurance product making renting more affordable and approachable for many people. Here I have worked on integrating ledger sync with a large 3rd party system called Yardi, updating our payment processing from a bespoke manual solution to a Stripe integration reducing settlement time from over a week to just a few days, and fixed various bugs and introduced features on our ActionCenter which is the core view end users interact with. The ActionCenter is currently written in React, but near the end of my tenure we adopted and built various features using Hotwire. Previous that, I was working with a local e-commerce startup called Dutchie on their Partner Integrations team. Here I helped design and implement a long-standing initiative to upgrade our Hubspot integration so that customers could leverage our data for targeted promotions. I also helped to design and implement an improved customer matching scheme with an acquired partner POS. This feature will improve the checkout experience for thousands of customers. I consider myself a great collaborator, a committed mentor and a pragmatic programmer who enjoys writing idiomatic ruby. These skills make me a great addition to any team, and I look forward to speaking with you about your project. 😊

Senior Tech Lead | Ruby on Rails expert | 20 years XP | Test addict | Performance lover

New profile

With over two decades of experience in software/application development, I've cultivated an expertise that spans multiple technologies and industries. Beginning with Java, I honed my skills within the heart of France's major banks and industries, mastering the foundations of software architecture. A decade later, my passion led me to Ruby, ushering in a new era of innovation. From dynamic startups like HelloPrêt to industry giants such as Doctolib, EDF, and Smart Pension, I've thrived in diverse environments, leveraging Ruby's flexibility to deliver exceptional solutions. Mentoring: Throughout my journey, I've embraced the role of mentor, guiding junior developers to unlock their potential and fostering a culture of collaboration and excellence. By offering advice and assistance, I've not only enhanced team productivity but also cultivated a cohesive and supportive work environment. Test addict: Testing isn't just a task – it's a philosophy that I've embraced since my inaugural professional experience in 2004. From unit tests to performance evaluations, I've championed the importance of comprehensive testing, recognizing its pivotal role in crafting resilient, bug-free software. Beyond mere functionality, tests empower us to build applications that are not just robust, but also easily maintainable. Performance lover: I'm passionate about performance optimization. Whether it's identifying and fixing N+1 queries, optimizing database indexes, or fine-tuning JVM settings, I love diving into performance challenges. Each problem is unique, and I enjoy finding tailored solutions to ensure systems run smoothly and efficiently.

Hi! I'm Liz 👋🏼 I'm about as full-stack 🥞 as they come. I started as a QA and automation engineer and now I'm a senior full-stack engineer focusing on Rails and React. Early on as a QA I worked on projects from writing SQL scripts to check data, to automation engineering, to React Native applications, and even helping implement Kafka instances and a team transition to Kubernetes. Then I moved on to development, mostly focusing on Rails / React stacks. I also am very comfortable working in Python. Now I've been a full stack developer for a few years, always carrying my QA mindset with me. I love exploring the ins and outs of a problem, and figuring out where I can pick it apart and expose weaknesses. I'm really great at building relationships with stakeholders, establishing trust and cooperation so that we can all move forward with a project in a very pragmatic way. Pairing with coworkers is always very enjoyable for me. I like the collaboration, but I really value the mentorship the most. Teaching juniors git has become a mainstay for me, as well as coaching them to maintain a calm mindset while debugging, encouraging them to move through issues in a systematic way. And of course I always fit in robust testing, showing folks how to create test suites and pipeline automation that will improve their workflow. Let's talk about how I can contribute to your team and stack 🙌🏻

Senior dev specialising in clean, maintainable code and keeping tech debt low

I'm a full-stack Rails developer (although recent projects have concentrated on API-only backends with ReactJS front ends managed by different teams). I've been working with Rails for over 10 years (since version 3.x) and have specialised in making code bases that are easy for teams to read, understand and maintain. Key to those goals are: using standardised code styles (ensuring RuboCop and the team's practices are perfectly aligned) writing well-structured, easy-to-understand and fast tests constructive and collaborative code reviews ensuring documentation, from git histories to READMEs and other materials (online and offline) records useful, meaningful information that can be easily kept up to date and in sync with any code changes I've recently been adding GraphQL to my skill set, which also includes PostgreSQL, ElasticSearch, Redis and other languages (Swift, PHP, JavaScript, and more). On the front end, I have experience both with Rails' native toolset and with ReactJS, Next.js and React Native. I also have experience of platform-native toolsets such as SwiftUI to deliver applications that feel intrinsically like part of the user’s mobile experience. I've worked on projects of various sizes, from scheduling and booking software for a major tech training company to systems allowing TV distributors to sell thousands of hours of programming all over the world. Ideally, I'm looking to work on products with which I can feel personally invested – an exciting product or tech-for-good project would definitely suit me better than a fintech role.
