CTO | Engineering Management | Rails developer (12+ years) | Sidekiq | RabbitMQ | Hotwire, Stimulus and Turbo | AWS | GCP | Terraform

I’m a Rails developer with over 12 years of experience in software development, including 10+ years working hands-on with Ruby on Rails. Along the way, I’ve built all kinds of applications—automation tools, ERPs, inventory management systems, insurtech platforms, social media apps, and even AI-integrated solutions. I’ve always focused on creating large-scale, high-performance apps that can handle thousands of concurrent records without breaking a sweat. I’ve worked with both SQL (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB) databases, making sure they’re set up for speed and scalability. On the backend, I’m well-versed in Sidekiq and RabbitMQ for background processing, and on the frontend, I use tools like Hotwire, Turbo, and Stimulus to make apps fast and interactive. When it comes to deployment, I’ve got plenty of experience with Google Cloud, AWS, and Fly.io, which lets me build infrastructure that’s as reliable as it is scalable. The recent apps I've developed have included AI integration with OpenAI and Anthropic APIs. At present, I'm also setting up an internal LLM for speeding up software development. What makes me stand out? I code fast. Really fast. I’m great at taking an idea from zero to a fully functioning app in just days, without cutting corners on quality. Having worked in Asia and Europe, I’ve learned how to adapt to different clients and challenges, which helps me deliver exactly what’s needed, every time. Recently, I co-founded my own software consulting firm, where I get to use my skills and experience to help businesses grow and succeed. Outside of coding, I’m passionate about dogs, I love solving crosswords, and I’m a bit of a political nerd. These hobbies keep my mind sharp and my creativity flowing, which is probably why I enjoy tackling complex coding challenges. I know Ruby and Rails inside out, and I thrive on turning big ideas into reality—quickly and efficiently. If you need someone who can hit the ground running and deliver results, I’m your developer.

Versatile engineer bridging AI and human needs

With 9 years of engineering excellence across diverse domains, I've mastered the art of transforming complex challenges into elegant technological solutions. As the creator and maintainer of the Solid Queue Monitor gem(https://rubygems.org/gems/solidqueuemonitor) —a zero-dependency monitoring solution for Rails background jobs—I've demonstrated my commitment to improving developer tooling in the Ruby ecosystem. In my current role as a Staff Engineer at Torch.io, a coaching platform trusted by industry giants like Stripe, LinkedIn, Airbnb, and TripAdvisor, I've revolutionized support systems by implementing OpenAI's GPT-3.5 for email automation, reducing manual intervention by 48%. I've also leveraged AWS Bedrock with Claude 3.7 to generate organizational insights reports, improving decision-making efficiency by 40%. My technical versatility spans the full spectrum of development—from crafting robust backends with Ruby, Go, and Python to building responsive frontends with React, Angular, and TypeScript. I've engineered large-scale data applications handling 5+ million active users and orchestrated seamless migrations of 4.5 million records while maintaining system integrity. Throughout my career, I've delivered impactful solutions across multiple domains—enhancing FinTech security protocols, optimizing CMS performance, and elevating coaching platforms. This domain versatility, combined with my technical depth and AI integration expertise, allows me to bring a unique perspective to every project and consistently deliver transformative results.

GSoC'23 GitLab | LFX Mentee'23 @CNCF - Cortex | GSoC'22 GitLab | GitLab Core Team Member | GitLab Hero 🦊 | Git contributor

I am excited to share my recent accomplishments and experiences. This summer, I had the privilege of being selected as a Google Summer of Code 2023 Student Developer at GitLab for the second consecutive year. My GSoC project focused on enhancing GitLab's merge request comparisons using git range-diff, enabling effective code reviews and validating changes during rebasing. Here is the link to the project: https://summerofcode.withgoogle.com/programs/2023/projects/Z0MnDIgd Additionally, I am currently a mentee for The Linux Foundation's LFX Mentorship Spring 2023 Program, where I am actively involved in the Cortex Project. My contribution revolves around implementing an API in Cortex to simplify the migration of data from Prometheus to Cortex by importing old Prometheus TSDB block data. Here is the link to the project: https://mentorship.lfx.linuxfoundation.org/project/184ccb3e-6abe-4bf9-9659-b42b5c07c5a5 During the previous summer, I participated as a Google Summer of Code 2022 Student Developer at GitLab, where I collaborated with the Gitaly team, responsible for handling Git RPC calls within GitLab. I successfully integrated the mailmap feature into GitLab and contributed to improving the performance of the contributor graph feature by utilizing git-shortlog. One can explore my GSoC journey on my personal blog : https://siddharthasthana.dev/archives/ Here is the link to the project: https://summerofcode.withgoogle.com/archive/2022/projects/yaKP2iJK My GSoC work got highlighted in the GitHub and Git communities. Here is the link: — https://github.blog/2022-10-03-highlights-from-git-2-38/ — https://github.blog/2023-03-13-highlights-from-git-2-40/ — https://git.github.io/rev_news/2022/10/26/edition-92/ I have been actively contributing to other OSS projects like Zulip which is a real-time team chat system and Git, a distributed version control system. At IVY, I have written functions and tests for the ML transpiler and deep learning framework. In the process, I learned not only about how web platforms work, but also have some knowledge of how low level systems like kernel work. Here are the OSS contributions in GitLab, Git and Zulip: GitLab: https://gitlab.com/dashboard/mergerequests?scope=all&state=merged&assigneeusername=edith007 Git: https://lore.kernel.org/git/?q=Siddharth+Asthana Zulip: https://github.com/zulip/zulip/pulls?q=is%3Apr+author%3Aedith007+is%3Aclosed IVY : https://github.com/unifyai/ivy/pulls/edith007 Furthermore, I am thrilled to announce my recent recognition as a GitLab Hero and my inclusion as a Core Team Member of GitLab. These accomplishments demonstrate my deep involvement in the open-source community and my commitment to driving impactful contributions.
