Senior engineer with 10+ years in Rails
Private informationDescription
🇬🇧 English Native — 🙋♂️ Available — Seasoned as an engineer for over 13 years, 10 of which being in Ruby and Rails, my focus is on shipping useful and worthwhile software. I can lead your team to launch your new MVP or bring your suffering app back to life, with a razor-sharp focus on generating value. I’ll ask the stupid questions that need to be asked and work closely with you to ensure time is spent delivering what your customers need, without the fluff they don’t.
I've enjoyed working with all sorts of people in all sorts of companies, building all sorts of things. That means I'm capable of working on a broad variety of problems — from rapidly building MVPs in a tiny team to iterating on planet-scale microservices within a large organisation.
I probably won't be able to patent a new algorithm to reduce load times by 0.05% across the board. But I will be able to help you find and remediate bottlenecks that are demonstrably causing your customers to bounce.
I won't disappear into a cave for two weeks with a feature specification and come back with a perfect implementation. I'd rather iterate and communicate; in two weeks the entire feature may have been scrapped in favour of a different value-add. Let's build the right things well, rather than the wrong things excellently.
And I won't sit idly by if the team is clearly unhappy and underperforming. Whether I need to take the reigns myself or inform others, everyone deserves to work in a positive environment, conducive to their happiness. Anything less produces bad software.
So that's roughly what I do. If you really haven't had enough of me, check out my more personal about page — https://schembri.me/about/
Have a nice day!
