Recent Imperial MSc graduate with significant Rails experience

New profile

I've recently switched career, but have built up broad experience of Rails applications and web dev more generally from a variety of personal and voluntary projects over the past ten years. What motivates me as an engineer is the potential real-world impact of solving users' problems tactically: for example, my MSc individual project was an experimental version control system in Rust tracking syntactic changes to source, to improve the accuracy and scope of automatic conflict resolution, and so reduce the hurdles to getting working code into production. I'm very comfortable working with many languages and frameworks, and always keen to broaden my knowledge, but have long been especially passionate about Rails and Ruby. A multi-year project for a student society to build a complete conference management solution in Rails means I now have significant experience of almost all areas of the framework and levels of the stack, including testing and deployment strategies, and understand the tools and approaches available to me and their associated tradeoffs. Before the MSc I was a linguist, and so have much experience of independent research and self-directed projects from the academic world—as well as clear and concise technical explanations to non-specialists, and effective and persuasive technical writing. I don't wait to find out what I need to know to make progress, and am always willing to consider innovative approaches to problems on their own merits.

Full-stack developer eager to contribute in a commercial setting.

I am a dynamic and determined full-stack developer who embarked on a transformative journey to pursue my passion for technology. Formerly a tax advisor trainee, I took a bold leap to enrol in the intensive Le Wagon full-time 2-month web development bootcamp. This pivotal decision allowed me to transition into the world of web development and unleashed my creativity and problem-solving skills. My fascination with technology extends beyond coding. I possess hands-on experience in planning and building high-end desktop computers, showcasing my comprehensive understanding of both hardware and software aspects. This technical foundation has proved invaluable in my journey towards becoming a well-rounded full-stack developer. Throughout the bootcamp, I actively participated in the development of multiple web applications, collaborating within a team environment. Using Ruby on Rails, I engaged in every stage of the development process, from conceptualization to deployment. My proficiency spans both front-end and back-end development. On the front end, I enjoy crafting user-friendly web pages using HTML, CSS, Bootstrap, JavaScript, and Ajax. Meanwhile, on the back end, I use Ruby to implement CRUD operations and search functionality, ensuring seamless user experiences. I am eager to bring my skills and passion for development to a promising team, contributing to impactful projects and furthering my knowledge. Currently, I am expanding my skill set by delving into React.js, aiming to enhance my capabilities and stay at the forefront of web development trends. I am excited about the prospect of contributing to innovative projects and gaining valuable commercial experience with a forward-thinking team.

Full stack web developer, with a background of aircraft maintenance engineering

I am an extremely motivated individual, who has always been passionate about engineering. Hence, I found the courage to move by myself from Barcelona, Spain, to the UK in 2013, to seek further career development working at the upper end of the aviation industry. As a person always interested in IT, Tech news and PC hardware, I’ve developed a natural skill with computers. As an example, I was able to set up a Lan network for my office back in 2008 on Windows XP, with 7 computers in 4 different locations and 2 different office addresses. Good old XP! Therefore, in the last 2 years my focus on coding has become increasingly stronger, to the point that I decided to embark on a career change and attend a bootcamp at Le Wagon. During the course, I worked with a fantastic team of individuals, learning Ruby, JavaScript and Ruby on rails as an example, shipping to production 2 projects collaborating in a team of 4. This last project where I had the pleasure to collaborate on is Shrine. We found than grieving is hard, and in a technological world the we live in now days, people wants to get together to mourn our loved ones, but sometimes is hard to find a common place where share our memories. As part of our last project in my bootcamp at Le Wagon, we build Shrine from scratch and shipped to production using Ruby on Rails. On a collaborative team of 4 members, I learn the good practices of version control. Using a framework like Rails, I've learned how to use MVC architecture, by creating models, routes, controllers and views. Thanks a Rails ActiveRecords, we kept a solid N:N database on postgreSQL and I consolidated concepts of migrations, columns their values, defaults and validations. As soft skills, the importance of communication, getting together at the end of the day to discuss progress, pull request revisions, and planning the next goals and tickets.
