Hi there, I discovered Rails before it was mainstream and have been in love with it ever since. I've now been doing Rails development for over 20 years and worked in many industries including banking, health care, parks and recreation, travel and real estate among others.

I've run my 1-person agency since 2006. Through my agency, I've engaged with many companies as engineering staff augmentation, helping teams ship features, clean up tech debt, train juniors, etc. I've worked with both product companies as well as agencies. When I'm not working with a client, I love bootstrapping my own projects. This year (2024) I've spent some time on "small bets", for which I've solo launched 3 completely to market. I'm hoping to complete a 4th before year end. At the end of 2023, I completed a 7 year near-full-time contract for a company in the HIPAA / digital health space, for which I was the original developer for their product. This product went on to earn millions of dollars in profit. Along with being the original developer, I helped train and onboard the rest of their engineering team in the best practices of Ruby, web, backend, etc. I'm incredibly active in the Ruby community, and you'd often find me working on one of my passion projects or assisting newcomers and other developers in the Ruby ecosystem. My skills don't stop just at Rails - I'm proficient in many other technologies and am capable of learning new ones. I aim to please and enjoy delivering on high expectations. I can be often found working on home improvements or in the kitchen (I love baking bread!).

I started learning code in late 2022 and it quickly became clear that this was the path I wanted to follow, so I decided to completely commit to it and make a drastic career switch. I joined a bootcamp here in Montreal, Le Wagon, where I had a wonderful experience! I come from an artistic background. I am a composer, and worked the past 10 years in the tattoo industry to make a living. At Le Wagon I learned how to build Rails apps as a full-stack developer, working in teams within the agile methodology. I also learned JavaScript, bootstrap, worked with Webpack, and PostgreSQL, amongst other things. I very much enjoyed designing schemes for databases and working on the back-end. At the end of the final sprint each of the team members chose a feature to add to our final app, something we could work on by ourselves; I chose to build a chat room from start to finish. Even though I did finish in time for demo day, I kept on fine tuning and debugging it after the bootcamp was done. It was a super fun and awesome challenge to tackle by myself! Now I am looking for a position that will allow me to grow as a developer in the real world. I want nothing more than to gain experience and learn from those who are further along this path. I feel very passionate about being part of a team, I love collaborating. I think creatively and love brainstorming ideas with others. I can bring very good insights to a team. I have great communication skills and my curiosity always leads me to continue learning.
