After bootstrapping and exiting a successful Rails SaaS as both principal engineer and CTO, I decided to focus back on my passion for engineering and architecture. I joined a remote-only startup building a new product with the goal of using the traditional Rails paradigms along with tried and tested technology to quickly get a comprehensive product to market. Hi there, I discovered Rails before it was mainstream and have been in love with it ever since. I've now been doing Rails development for over 20 years and worked in many industries including banking, health care, parks and recreation, travel and real estate among others.

I've run my 1-person agency since 2006. Through my agency, I've engaged with many companies as engineering staff augmentation, helping teams ship features, clean up tech debt, train juniors, etc. I've worked with both product companies as well as agencies. When I'm not working with a client, I love bootstrapping my own projects. This year (2024) I've spent some time on "small bets", for which I've solo launched 3 completely to market. I'm hoping to complete a 4th before year end. At the end of 2023, I completed a 7 year near-full-time contract for a company in the HIPAA / digital health space, for which I was the original developer for their product. This product went on to earn millions of dollars in profit. Along with being the original developer, I helped train and onboard the rest of their engineering team in the best practices of Ruby, web, backend, etc. I'm incredibly active in the Ruby community, and you'd often find me working on one of my passion projects or assisting newcomers and other developers in the Ruby ecosystem. My skills don't stop just at Rails - I'm proficient in many other technologies and am capable of learning new ones. I aim to please and enjoy delivering on high expectations. I can be often found working on home improvements or in the kitchen (I love baking bread!).
