Hello, my name is Germán, and I’m 47 years old. I’ve been working in IT for over 20 years. I began with ASP and dBASE on DOS and Dr. DOS. Early on, as I looked for better tools, I transitioned to PHP and began using GNU/Linux. After trying Mandrake, RedHat, Gentoo, and Slackware, I eventually chose Debian, which I still use on my desktop today. I started as a PHP Backend Developer, setting up on-site servers for www.turismoentrerios.com and enjoyed configuring systems like Apache, phpMyAdmin, MySQL, Bind, Squid Cache and so on and so on. In 2005, after attending a Python conference and a few meetups, I decided to start working with Ruby. I was fascinated by scaffolding and Ruby’s “magic” methods and knew I wanted to use this language professionally. At Cafe Conf 2007, I presented on basic Ruby concepts, (which helped solidify my path in development). My professional experience grew from there, including: Decisiv: I spent significant time migrating tests from Minitest to RSpec. ImagineRetailer: I worked on migrating the system from PHP legacy code to Shopify using API services. Nurelm: Most recently, I developed multiple applications using Ruby, Ruby on Rails, Sinatra, PostgreSQL, and Docker. With over 10 years of experience in Ruby and Ruby on Rails, plus extensive experience in PHP and some background in Python, I bring a broad technical skill set to my work.
