Ruby on Rails Expert | Real Time App | NodeJS | ReactJS | NextJS

As a developer with over 7 years of experience, my journey began with a curiosity for how technology can be harnessed to solve real-world problems. Early on, I was drawn to full-stack development because of the opportunity to work across the entire application lifecycle. My expertise lies in Ruby on Rails, ReactJS, and React Native, but my passion for learning has driven me to continually expand my skill set with technologies like GO, NextJS, Node.js, and Python. One of my recent accomplishments was leading the development of a mobile app that streamlined a complex insurance process. By integrating APIs, building a custom voucher system, and enhancing the user interface, I not only improved the user experience but also contributed to a 10% increase in sales. This project reinforced my belief in the power of well-crafted software to drive business success. What sets me apart as a developer is my focus on problem-solving and scalability. I thrive on dissecting complex issues, whether it's improving performance by optimizing code or implementing a solution that scales seamlessly. I’m passionate about helping businesses grow through technology, and I pride myself on my ability to adapt quickly, learn new tools, and apply them to solve unique challenges. Above all, I am committed to building high-quality, impactful software that not only meets the needs of users but also drives meaningful results for the businesses I collaborate with. Whether it’s developing from scratch, maintaining existing projects, or testing new ideas with an MVP, I bring a versatile and solutions-driven mindset to every challenge.

Engineering Leader - Experienced in Scaling from 0 - acquistition

I am an accomplished Head of Engineering with over 9 years of experience driving innovation and leading high-performing engineering teams. Throughout my career, I have consistently built and scaled engineering organizations, delivered complex software solutions, and driven significant business impact.   My "developer origin story" is grounded in hands-on software development. I honed my skills in Ruby on Rails early on, and I'm particularly proud of my commitment to quality, like when I took untested production apps to 95% code coverage. This foundation as a developer deeply informs my leadership approach, giving me a strong understanding of the challenges and opportunities my teams face. A recent highlight includes my time as CTO at Sonatafy, where I developed AI screening to improve hiring and recruiting efficiency.   Building and scaling teams is a passion of mine, demonstrated by my experiences at Spring Health and Freshly, where I rapidly expanded engineering teams while maintaining a focus on delivery and quality. I excel at connecting technology with business strategy, and I have a proven track record of driving key business metrics and reducing costs through innovative solutions. For example, I owned the engineering of an internal EHR at Spring Health, which decreased expenditures in the tens of millions annually.   My unique skills lie in the blend of my technical expertise, strategic thinking, and leadership capabilities. I'm adept at system architecture, project management, and IT strategy, with a focus on fostering collaboration and enhancing operational efficiency. I believe in investing in people, and I am committed to mentoring, training, and guiding teams, even through complex transitions like the billion-dollar acquisition I navigated at Freshly.

Full Stack Ruby on Rails / React Engineer

I’m Ben, a full stack engineer with about 5 years of experience. While studying physics in school, I first wrote code by writing some simulations in Python. I then took Object Oriented Programming with Java in the CS department, which is when I first started to fall in love with writing code and consider a career in programming. It came easy to me and was fun. After graduating, I first worked in the electronics engineering field. I wasn’t super happy with it, and after a year and a half decided to take a full stack Ruby on Rails bootcamp, at Le Wagon’s campus in Bali, Indonesia. Following the bootcamp, I first started doing some freelancing for one of my classmates in the bootcamp. I then began working full time at Wikilane, the owner of Invoice Home. There I worked on the full stack monolithic Rails app, an Invoice Maker for freelancers and small businesses.I also learned mobile development and developed several apps for iOS and Android. This work was done mostly remotely on US working hours, with occasional meetups at the company HQ in Prague, CZ. I then spent some time learning React, and doing some freelancing. I built an app called Dropitt, a drop shipping services marketplace in the Shopify store. This was built with Rails and React. Following this, I spent nearly 2 years working with Vessel Partners, a consultancy specialized in the US health care industry. There I worked on 4 different projects for different clients. We had a Rails API, with Redis, Sidekiq, Postgres, and Docker. We used a React front end, using TypeScript and Next. This work was done 100% remotely as part of a small team on US working hours. Since then, I’ve been working on a personal project, using a Rails API and a React frontend, utilizing a similar stack to what I have been accustomed with. I am also working part-time with Finagle, a finance platform, as a front end developer using React. I'm passionate about building applications that have a positive impact. I've lived in nearly 20 countries over the last 5 years, all while working for US based companies remotely or as a freelancer. Traveling and understanding the people and land of planet earth is one of my greatest passions, and I'm grateful to have a career that allows me to work remotely while doing so.
